PhilSAR Showcases the Philippines' First Mobile Laboratory for Livestock Reproductive Biotechnologies
The Philippine Society of Animal Reproduction (PhilSAR) proudly celebrates a landmark achievement in Philippine livestock science with the establishment of the City of Ilagan Mobile Laboratory—the first mobile laboratory in the Philippines specifically customized for livestock reproductive biotechnologies.
This pioneering facility represents a major step toward making advanced reproductive technologies more accessible to livestock farmers by bringing laboratory-quality services directly to farms and rural communities. The initiative was made possible through the visionary support of the City Government of Ilagan, led by Hon. Mayor Josemarie L. Diaz, together with the City Veterinary Office headed by Dr. Jason Gangan and the City Administrator's Office under Mr. Ricky Laggui.
Bringing Advanced Reproductive Technologies to the Field
The Mobile Laboratory was specifically designed to support the field implementation of modern livestock reproductive technologies, including:
Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer (MOET)
Embryo collection, evaluation, and transfer
Reproductive examination and ultrasonography
Artificial insemination (AI)
Semen collection and processing
Cryopreservation and other biotechnology-based reproductive services
By bringing these technologies directly to livestock farms, the Mobile Laboratory eliminates many of the logistical challenges associated with transporting animals to specialized facilities. This enables wider adoption of reproductive biotechnologies that accelerate genetic improvement, enhance reproductive efficiency, and increase livestock productivity.
A Symbol of Collaboration and Innovation
As a testament to the strong partnership between the City Government of Ilagan and the scientific community, the Mobile Laboratory proudly displays the PhilSAR logo, symbolizing the Society's shared commitment to promoting science-based innovations that benefit Filipino livestock farmers and strengthen the country's livestock industry.
The laboratory was customized through the collaborative efforts of PhilSAR President Dr. Danilda Hufana-Duran, PhilSAR Founding Adviser Dr. Peregrino G. Duran, scientists from the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC), and PhilSAR Member Engr. Morrimer Daag. Their combined expertise transformed the concept into a fully functional mobile platform capable of delivering advanced reproductive biotechnology services under actual field conditions.
Expanding Opportunities for Farmers
The City of Ilagan Mobile Laboratory demonstrates how innovation, local government leadership, and scientific collaboration can work together to bring cutting-edge technologies closer to livestock producers. By making reproductive biotechnologies more accessible, the facility will help farmers improve herd genetics, increase animal productivity, and enhance the profitability and sustainability of their livestock enterprises.
PhilSAR commends the City Government of Ilagan for its vision and commitment to investing in agricultural innovation. This initiative serves as a model for other local government units seeking to strengthen livestock development through science and technology.
As PhilSAR continues to promote excellence in animal reproduction, partnerships like these reaffirm the Society's mission of advancing reproductive science for sustainable livestock productivity and supporting a more competitive Philippine livestock industry.
