The Philippine Society of Animal Reproduction (PhilSAR) was founded in 2025 by a group of dedicated veterinarians, animal scientists, researchers, educators, students, and livestock professionals united by a common vision—to advance the science and practice of animal reproduction in the Philippines through education, research, innovation, collaboration, and hands-on capacity building.

The idea for PhilSAR was conceived by Dr. Danilda Hufana-Duran, who recognized a longstanding gap between classroom instruction and practical field experience in animal reproductive science. While many students, professors, researchers, and livestock practitioners learn the principles of reproductive physiology and biotechnology through lectures and textbooks, opportunities to perform these techniques under the guidance of experienced practitioners remain limited.

Driven by this need, Dr. Hufana-Duran envisioned a professional society where members could not only exchange scientific knowledge but also gain meaningful hands-on training and real-world experience in reproductive technologies such as artificial insemination (AI), pregnancy diagnosis, rectal palpation, ultrasonography, estrus synchronization, multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET), in vitro embryo production (IVEP), in vitro fertilization (IVF), semen evaluation, and other emerging reproductive biotechnologies. PhilSAR was therefore established to bridge the gap between theory and practice while fostering collaboration among academia, government institutions, industry, and livestock producers.

This vision began to take shape on May 12, 2025, when Dr. Hufana-Duran shared the concept with fellow professionals who immediately expressed their support. By June 1, 2025, representatives from Luzon and the Visayas convened through the Society's first Zoom meeting to draft the Constitution and By-Laws and elect the interim officers, marking the official birth of PhilSAR. The Society was subsequently introduced to the scientific and academic community during its first seminar-workshop in partnership with the Department of Animal Science, Visayas State University, where its mission, vision, and commitment to advancing reproductive biotechnology were formally presented.

PhilSAR continued to grow rapidly through nationwide webinars, seminar-workshops, scientific meetings, membership expansion, and collaborations with universities, research institutions, and professional organizations. Its members actively participated in national scientific conventions, promoted reproductive biotechnology across the country, and initiated preparations for international collaborations within the ASEAN region.

A significant milestone was achieved on October 22, 2025, when PhilSAR was officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit scientific organization. The Society further strengthened its institutional foundation by completing its legal and operational requirements, including registration with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), establishment of official financial accounts, and the oath-taking of its first set of officers and Board of Trustees. The founding officers and Board represent universities, government agencies, and institutions from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, reflecting PhilSAR's commitment to national representation and collaboration.

Today, PhilSAR serves as the Philippines' premier professional organization dedicated exclusively to animal reproduction and reproductive biotechnology. Through scientific conferences, technical seminars, practical workshops, publications, research collaborations, and professional networking, the Society remains committed to empowering researchers, educators, students, veterinarians, animal scientists, extension workers, livestock producers, and industry partners in advancing sustainable livestock production, genetic improvement, and food security.

Guided by the principles of scientific excellence, innovation, integrity, collaboration, and service, PhilSAR continues to build a vibrant community of professionals dedicated to transforming animal reproduction in the Philippines and contributing to global advances in livestock reproductive science.
